time to wrap up week 3! ...it was overall another great week in the city. still continued to keep busy in the office with small tasks for my mentors and worked further into my project. tuesday night we enjoyed dinner with all the interns at julia's apartment located on the lower east side; it was great to spend some extra time with all the interns since i don't go to work with them at all and hardly get the opportunity to see them. thursday went by extremely quick because word on the street was that justin beiber would be stopping in to meet the perfumers who created his new fragrance that just launched earlier this week...instead, the team went to meet him at Macy's and left the interns to work :( haha. i ate lunch with 2 of my co-workers dana and megan at a local sushi restaurant and my half day friday was primarily spend smelling new creations for several different projects!!

friday night robbie and i attended yet another "open bar". we paid $5 and drank from 6-7 for free on a rooftop bar in time square...can't beat that! the rest of the night..and well into the morning was spent bar hoping and meeting more new friends. last night (saturday) i met up with peter and his brother scott and his friends for a birthday dinner. thanks to scott i had one of the best meals in a long time.. for free! it was nice hanging out with someone from back home and made me miss everyone even more! ....overall it was a great night though!

today of course we had to attend the gay pride parade that ran throughout NYC! ohhh the sites you will see! ...or should i say "we did see". wow. hahaha... we did a little more shopping and ended the day early back in brooklyn!

also saw a lightning bug tonight..most amazing little bug ever :)
still enjoying and appreciating every little bit of NYC. there is always something new to do or new to see which is what i love most. also i have finally began to find the quiet and relaxing places to be by myself which puts all the chaos to rest.

looking forward to the week ahead
--day at the jersey beach with all my co-workers

lucky lucky day

This past weekend was absolutely amazing; probably one i wont forget for many years. it began on friday when we went to half off drinks courtesy of lauren. saturday morning amanda and i spent the day roaming the streets of manhattan.. we went to the high line which was absolutely amazing. it is a mile long elevated city park that runs along an old railroad track and has amazing views of the city... then we walked around chelsea, the meatpacking district, and soho where we found plenty of shopping! topshop, madewell, 414 14th street,...you name it; we were there!

saturday night we went to yet another intern bar event. free drinks for an hour in nyc is quite the find... this week the pourhouse on 3rd avenue it was and did we take full advantage :) after a couple bars, a couple taxi rides, a couple scrapes from falling, and a few plates of breakfast food..the night was over and filled with wonderful memories with amanda, beth, and makenzie!

2 hours were spent wandering around central park on sunday which was a much needed relaxing day.

i knew today was going to be a good day when i went to "my" coffee stand for my $2 ice coffee, realized i didn't have cash and the nice man told me i could just pay tomorrow :) new york is getting nicer and nicer everyday... i then became an "assistant" at firmenich. viviene could only work a half day so i literally sat at her desk and took on all the tasks she would normally do on a day to day basis. i created blotters, reference sheets for a michael kors project, showed some clients to the conference room where i set them up on their call (they had no clue i was an intern...) fake it til you make it; right?! that's exactly what i did. also got to attend the michael kors meeting in which the client was referring to "the michael kors" as michael--who know's it could've been his wife... probably was. i love my job.

tonight was take your friend to workout night (only happens once a month if you are lucky) so robbie got to go to the gym! we ate dinner at the promenade and believe it or not a homeless guy picked up my tiffany's card holder off the ground under the bench we were sitting on (my bad) and asked me if it was mine... if he were like 98% of the others around here he would have been off with it in a second... today was definitely my lucky day; all around! :)

end of week 2. my project is finalized and i have SO much to do...but i guess that is why i'm here and the end result will be worth it!!

1/2 day of work today was much needed...looks like we are hiring the band i found for our event at work called 625high which i'm excited about... and donna karen will be there which is also amazing as well as other clients of firmenich!

my main question for all new yorkers is seriously...what is the HUGE hurry.. i swear; this city NEVER slows down... you would honestly think 100% of the people are late and the funny thing is its not just the people going to work... the 7 year olds literally run from subway to subway. crazy people!.. i'm learning to look and act like a new yorker though.. the best feeling EVER is when you squeeze into the crammed subway at 8 am in the morning (rush hr) right as the door is closing...
there is nothing better and no other better start to your day. oh! and i'm already a "regular" at the legendary coffee stands that sit on every corner in Manhattan... love it.

one other note... when it rains in NY; it rains in NY! that wraps up today!

more to come after our adventurous weekend, we're planning to "do it all"!

Post 2--i'm really on top of this blogging thing!

so i had another wonderful day at work. started out by creating an "action plan/agenda" for the next 8 1/2 that i am here... all leading to my 2 hour presentation on aug 9. i also worked on creating/formulating interview questions. for lunch i went to chop't...best salad place in the world and ate/gossiped on the terrace with my mentor hilary. the afternoon i spent discussing my project with my mentors, smelling creations of cologne with arpi and lauren and hunting down cute boys in the office, also we may be finalizing the band i found for our event to raise money for haiti in july!!!... not a bad day! i also received an ipod nano from the mark. girls!!

spent the night walking around brooklyn again...down to the bridge and got pizza from a famous place... much to my surprise i must be alergic to something on it cuz my face is extremely warm and uncomfortable! yikes!...that better be gone tomorrow!!

that's it for now! night!

New York City- week1

NYCyear2... who would have thought! but here i am living my dream for the second summer throughout my college education and so far; so good!

my mom and kat came back to help me move in...this year to brooklyn heights; such a different experience than columbia already...and its only the beginning of the second week. this area has much more of a neighborhood feeling than columbia/the upper west side ever did. i can literally walk out the door of (EHS) where i'm living and only see a couple of people; "normal" people :) we get access to the gym which is super nice considering for the average person its around $1,000 for a year pass and they have spinning here too!

this past week i have spent getting to know everyone at work which has been a wonderful experience. this summer i'm at Firmenich inc. one of the largest fragrance houses in the world and i have the privilege to work with my mentors hilary and lauren as well as several other people around the building. everyone is amazing! usually my day consists of getting up at 6:30am, leaving my room at about 7:35.... straight to the subway and after one transfer on the subway and a quick $2.00 ice coffee...i'm at work to begin my day! usually i spend the day attending fragrance meetings with my mentors, making sample requests, attending olfactive trainings, making "wab" kits of the top 30 mens and women's fragrances in the market, and planning social events for the company!! last week i attended the first "make your mark." lunch with Vanessa Reggiardo the new mark. president which was very insightful and inspiring... but what in this industry isn't inspiring! that same night the interns attended the CEW event at the harmonie club to hear jane lauder speak about origins and ojon and her role as ms. lauder's granddaughter!

this past weekend i spent friday night at sidebar with a few of the interns where we hardly spent a dime and still had an amazing time and saturday exploring brooklyn heights with robbie. sunday was a catch up day getting the room put back together and rested to begin week 2!

i received my project more fully in depth today and i can't wait to get it started! when i'm done doing very expansive and intense interviews/research, i will know exactly what the mark girl wants in life: what her favorite beauty items are, what she can't live without in her everyday life, and her PERFECT fragrance all of which i will present at the end of my summer to the mark and firmenich teams!

so that pretty much wraps up the last week or so.... much more to come in the future!! oh yeah... and i get "half day fridays" so i spend the later half of every friday shopping the streets of 5th ave... nice, i know!

Five favorites from this week.... trader joe's yogurt, hilary and lauren<3, crepes from artopolis, robbie and her roommates (haha), my new neighborhood in brooklyn!
